Our model is built on private, small-group Yosemite backpacking charters. While ‘custom’ usually means expensive, we’ve designed this system to offer premium logistics, local expertise and all-inclusive trips at a price comparable to a mid-range traditional outfitter. This eliminates the headache of fixed departure dates and gives you control over the trip style and itinerary. We designed this system to solve the biggest hassles of DIY planning: getting permits, securing gear, and coordinating transportation.
Your trip is built on a custom itinerary for 2–8 people. While 6 is our standard maximum, for closed charters we will consider up to 8 guests (occasionally more) during your consultation. During your consultation, you will choose one of two paths:
Path A: Closed Charter. Guarantees full privacy for your group (e.g., honeymoon, family, etc). You will pay the initial price corresponding to your group size (e.g., a group of 4 pays the 4-person rate), and the price will remain fixed.
Path B: Open Charter(Sliding Price). You allow us to vet and add guests until the charter reaches a maximum of 6 total. Your per-person rate will drop for everyone as new participants join, eventually reaching the lowest 6-person rate ($2,200 pp for 5-day trips). We handle the vetting on the consultation call to ensure a seamless group fit and great dynamics.
Once your path (Closed or Open) is selected, Evan will finalize all non-negotiable logistics: securing your wilderness permits, confirming your Bay Area airport pickup and drop-off times, and setting your final price. You will receive a single confirmation document detailing everything we’ve discussed – a route description, pricing, confirmation of permits, and pickup/dropoff timing based on your schedule. The focus then shifts entirely to the trail.
Our Available Charters page lists the only non-private group trips we offer. Each trip is 100% confirmed, has been “opened” by a private group, and lists the number of available spots.
To make group logistics seamless, every Available Charter has two fixed rules: the dates and the Single Point of Pickup (SPP). These logistics are not flexible. If you need a pickup time/date that is not part of an Available Charter, consider chartering your own trip and Open it to other guests!
Can’t make the SPP? If you are a local or can drive to the area, you can opt for the Drive-In Discount ($200 off) and meet the group in the park.
If the trip style, dates, and logistics work for you, click “Request to Join” on that trip card. This will send you to our consultation form.
This is a brief, practical call with Evan and Shawna. Our only goal is to ensure the trip’s demands match your goals and fitness level. We discuss your experience and expectations to guarantee a great fit for everyone on the trail. We will never place you on a trip that isn’t right for you.
This consultation is complimentary and the first step to securing your charter.
